We’re Louis C.K. fans, but the stand-up legend seems more the type to abhor what Saturday Night Live has become, than the type to actually host. Plainly put, we were dubious. In some respects, the skepticism was warranted. Comedians always thrive in SNL’s opening monologue, but not always in the 90 minutes in between. There were one too many weak skits, many of which didn’t nearly take enough advantage of Louie’s unique and charming discontent with life’s nuances.
However, the Lincoln skit was pure genius.
